Jackson did not die from swallowing propofol- Michael Jackson could not have caused his own death by swallowing the powerful anesthetic propofol, a prosecution expert testified Thursday. Dr. Steven Shafer, testifying on what is expected to be the final day of the prosecution's involuntary manslaughter case against Dr. Conrad Murray, said propofol that is swallowed would not enter the bloodstream, which is where the drug was found after Jackson death in June 2009.
Murray's lawyers are expected to argue that it was a desperately sleepless Jackson who fatally gave himself propofol and a sedative while the doctor was away from the bedside. They originally said Jackson swallowed the propofol, but now say they have accepted new research studies proving that swallowing the surgical anesthetic would be harmless.
