Austin Powers Actor Arrested- An Austin Powers actor imprisoned for torturing and gang raping a young woman is now a suspect in the death of his cellmate in a Californian prison. Joseph Hyungmin Son, who played the shoe-throwing character "Random Task" in Austin Powers, was jailed on September 16 after he was found guilty of the 1990 abduction and rape of a 20-year-old Southern Californinan woman. His 50-year-old cellmate a parole violator who was serving a two-year-sentence for failing to register as a sex offender was found dead in his cell on Tuesday morning.
His death is being treated as homicide but a spokesman for Thornton and Wasco State Prison would not say how the man died or why his death was considered suspicious, Associated Press reports. The unidentified victim had arrived at the prison on June 23 and was housed with Son in the reception unit for new inmates. Son, along with another man, snatched a woman off the street on December 24, 1990.
They held the woman at gunpoint, raping her numerous times and sexually assaulting her with the gun. The men then released the woman naked with her pants tied around her eyes. The actor was not arrested in relation to the crime until 2008, when he violated probation on a vandalism charge and gave a DNA sample, which was found to match one from the victim.
