Pat and Edna Perry + Faith Hill

Pat and Edna Perry + Faith Hill- Born Audrey Faith Perry, on September 21, 1967, in Jackson, Mississippi. Raised along with her two older brothers by adoptive parents Pat and Edna Perry, Faith Hill grew up near Jackson, where Pat Perry worked in a factory. Her first singing experience came as a child in her family's Baptist church. As a young teenager, Faith Hill learned to play guitar, and by age 16 she had started her own country band that played at a number of local fairs and rodeos. After graduating from high school in 1986, Faith Hill spent a year in community college before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue her love of music. In Nashville, Faith Hill worked as a receptionist at a music publishing company before landing a job packaging fan merchandise for her idol, country diva Reba McEntire. She married the songwriter and music publishing executive Daniel Hill in 1988. Hill's professional breakthrough came when she was spotted by Martha Sharp, a talent scout from the Warner/Reprise recording company, while singing back-up for Gary Burr in the Bluebird Café, a popular Nashville bar. Her debut album, Take Me As I Am, was released in 1993 to immediate success. The album's first single, "Wild One," reached No. 1 on the Billboard country music chart and stayed there for four weeks, followed by the second single, a version of Janis Joplin's classic "Piece of My Heart." Take Me As I Am went on to reach triple platinum status.

Hill's rise to country stardom coincided with a good deal of upheaval in her personal life. In 1990, she had begun a search for her birth mother, whom she eventually met in 1993. Hill has declined to publicly name her birth mother in order to protect her privacy, but has remained in contact with her. On a sadder note, her marriage to Daniel Hill ended in divorce in 1994.

Hill spent much of 1994 touring as an opening act for such respected country artists as McEntire, Alan Jackson, and Brooks & Dunn. She won numerous honors that year, including Best Female Country Artist from Billboard and Performance magazines and Favorite New Female Artist from the Academy of Country Music. Her second album, It Matters to Me (1995), surged to the top of the charts and cemented Hill's popularity among country fans. The title single remained the top-selling country single for the first six months of 1996.

In the spring of 1996, Hill began a joint tour, dubbed the Spontaneous Combustion tour, with country superstar Tim McGraw. At the time, McGraw had recently broken an engagement to Kristine Donahue, and Hill was engaged to Scott Hendricks, a record producer who had helmed her first two albums. Nonetheless, sparks flew, and the two began a romantic relationship. They married on October 6, 1996, immediately becoming country music's most visible couple. Hill and McGraw have three daughters, Audrey Caroline, Gracie Katherine and Maggie Elizabeth.

Hill's next album, Faith (1998), hit platinum sales in only six weeks and spawned two No. 1 country hits, "This Kiss" and "Just to Hear You Say That You Love Me." At year's end, Hill racked up more honors, including a Best Country Album award from the Nashville Music Awards and Best Female Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music. The success of Faith (and especially of "This Kiss") on the pop charts marked the beginning of Hill's crossover from country to pop stardom, solidified by her performance on VH1's Divas Live television special, alongside Tina Turner, Elton John, and Whitney Houston, and the accompanying album. (Hill later made headlines for her last-minute fill-in performance for Houston at the Academy Awards ceremony in March 2000.)

In November of 1999, Hill released the more pop-oriented Breathe, which would become her first bona fide crossover album. With a steamy video for the album's title single, Hill's wholesome country image became decidedly sexier, no doubt contributing to the album's triple platinum sales. In addition to another Best Female Vocalist crown from the Country Music Association, Hill garnered an impressive number of nominations from the pop-centered American Music Awards. She went on to earn numerous other honors, including a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year (for writing "Breathe") and Grammy Awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Female Vocal Performance.

In May 2000, Hill and McGraw launched their second tour together, the Soul2Soul Tour 2000. The two have collaborated in the recording studio as well, including the Grammy-winning duet "Let's Make Love," featured on Breathe. In 2004, the singer appeared in a remake of the 1975 comedic thriller The Stepford Wives with Nicole Kidman and Glenn Close.

In May 2000, Hill and McGraw launched the Soul2Soul Tour, which now stands as the highest grossing country music tour ever. In addition to her thriving career and family, Hill devotes a good deal of time to her charity organization, the Faith Hill Family Literacy Project, launched in 1996 with the cooperation of Warner Bros. and Time Warner.

In 2005, Hill returned to her country roots with the much-touted album Fireflies, which included several chart-topping singles: "Mississippi Girl," "The Lucky One," and a duet with McGraw, "Like We Never Loved At All," which won a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. The album was certified double platinum in January 2006. The next year, Hill went on the road with her husband for the third time with the Soul2Soul Tour 2007.
The following year, Hill released the holiday-themed Joy to the World (2008). The album was a hit on both the country and pop charts. This popular singer, wife, and mother took on a new role in 2009. Hill announced that she will be working with Coty Inc. to develop a new fragrance line.

Steve Jobs + Pancreatic Cancer

Steve Jobs + pancreatic cancer- Steven Paul Steve Jobs and Pancreatic Cancer February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011 was an American computer entrepreneur and inventor. He was co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Jobs also previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney. He was credited in Toy Story (1995) as an executive producer.

In the late 1970s, Jobs, with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Mike Markkula and others designed, developed, and marketed one of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series. In the early 1980s, Jobs was among the first to see the commercial potential of Xerox PARC's mouse-driven graphical user interface, which led to the creation of the Macintosh. After losing a power struggle with the board of directors in 1985, Jobs resigned from Apple and founded NeXT, a computer platform development company specializing in the higher-education and business markets. Apple's subsequent 1996 buyout of NeXT brought Jobs back to the company he co-founded, and he served as its CEO from 1997 until 2011.
In 1986, he acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm Ltd which was spun off as Pixar Animation Studios. He remained CEO and majority shareholder at 50.1 percent until its acquisition by The Walt Disney company in 2006. Consequently Jobs became Disney's largest individual shareholder at 7 percent and a member of Disney's Board of Directors. On August 24, 2011, Jobs announced his resignation from his role as Apple's CEO. On October 5, 2011, Apple announced that Jobs had died at age 56 due to pancreatic cancer.

Russian Tablet Rival Ipad

Russian tablet rival ipad- Russia designs tablet PC to rival Apple's iPad. A Russian state company plans to start mass production next year of cheap plastic-based tablet computers for school students which it says will rival Apple Inc's iPad. Anatoly Chubais, an architect of Russian market reform and a head of technology conglomerate Rosnano, told Prime Minister Vladimir Putin the new computer would cost about $420 compared with $670 for the cheapest iPad.
"This tablet is lighter, there is no glass, even in the screen. Even if school students decide to fight each other with these tablets, they are absolutely injury-free," Chubais joked in a bid to promote the technology.
The device would use plastic or organic electronics, developed at Cambridge University in the 1990s, rather than silicon conductors. Chubais sees the technology grabbing a 10 percent share of the global electronics market.
Television footage showed Chubais handing to Putin the 20 by 30 centimetre tablet PC, which visually resembled the iPad but exceeded its rival in size. Putin touched the screen and smiled when a popular proverb came up.
Unlike his partner in Russia's ruling duo, President Dmitry Medvedev, an Apple fan who appears at official events carrying his iPad, Putin is not a computer geek, and officials are often advised not to display their iPads in his presence.

RUSSIAN TABLET
Many younger Russian bureaucrats and entrepreneurs who see Medvedev as their leader and want him to take part in the March 2012 presidential election also carry iPads and are active on Twitter and Facebook.
In January 2011 Rosnano paid $150 million for 25 percent of Plastic Logic, seen as one of the global leaders in plastic electronics and which plans to invest $700 million in building a manufacturing plant outside Moscow.
Apple's main distributor in Russia, Re:Store, estimates the local market for tablet computers at 500,000 per year, with Apple's iPad holding a 60 percent share.
"I can be certain that a Russian tablet computer will not get more than a 10 percent share of the market," Re:Store's CEO Tikhon Smykov told Reuters.
Chubais said Rosnano will test the new tablet, pre-loaded with school books and education materials, in some schools for a year before launching mass production and targeting Russia's 13.6 million school students.

Leno I Have yet to Touch a Dime Of My Tonight Show Salary

Leno I have yet to touch a dime of my Tonight Show salary. I live off the money I make as a comedian- Jay Leno Republican and Democratic challengers continue to squeeze their supporters dry to fund multi-million dollar campaign war chests, the Jay Leno for President campaign is saving its supporters $4,600 each. According to federal campaign laws, individuals may contribute up to $4,600 to a presidential candidate (with a maximum of $2,300 going to the primary election and $2,300 to the general election). By running a donation-less campaign, in which no money will be raised or spent to get Jay elected president, his supporters enjoy what other candidates' backers are sorely missing: The financial windfall of not having to contribute a dime to an election campaign.

"Our donation-less campaign is the first time in America presidential politics that supporters save money before their candidate even gets elected," said Howard Lester, chairman of the Jay Leno for President campaign. "Every candidate says they'll save people money with tax cuts and other empty promises, if they're ever elected. Meanwhile, they're costing their supporters thousands of dollars each with absolutely no guarantee they can even win. It costs Jay Leno's supporters nothing to back their candidate. That's something we can all be proud of."
The credo of the Jay Leno for President campaign is: We're out to raise consciousness, not money. For that simple reason alone, there's no "Donation" button on this site, nor any vehicle whatsoever for collecting or disbursing campaign funds. In fact, after nearly three months, and millions of supporters, our campaign war chest is still bone dry.
Of course, it would be a cinch for Jay to raise money, if and when he finds out about the Jay Leno for President campaign. He knows lots of rich people. But, if he's the kind of candidate we know he is, and if he knows we're the kind of supporters we know he knows we are, when he finally declares his candidacy, we're certain of one thing: Jay'll will want to continue the strategy of building support without relying on money to do it. That simple, humble quality of Jay Leno, the man, will make him shine even brighter as a presidential candidate in the hearts and minds of American voters.

Jay Leno's position on two key presidential campaign issues, energy and the environment, were revealed to the public in an article he wrote for the September 2007 issue of Popular Mechanics Magazine. His comments in PM's Jay's Green Garage series mark one of the few times during the campaign Jay has spoken out on the issues, sparking speculation that he may be inching closer to a formal declaration of his intention to run for president. In the article entitled "Blowin' In The Wind," Jay demonstrated how he is leading by example, doing his part for energy conservation and the environment, by installing wind-driven turbines to generate electrical power for his garage near the San Gabriel mountains in California. The article gave PM readers and Jay Leno for President supporters a first-hand glimpse of Jay's personal commitment to solving this country's problems. It also shows the kind of leadership we can expect if this concerned and dedicated man becomes president.
"None of the other presidential candidates have put in wind-powered generators, super-efficient water heaters, or environmentally-friendly parts washers at their garages," remarked Jay Leno for President campaign chairman Howard Lester. "Jay's a man who's taking action on the environment and energy-conservation, he's not just talking about it. While Jay's spending tens of thousands of dollars of his own money at his facility to personally help improve the environment and cut energy consumption, Hillary, Mitt, Barack, and the others are busy spendings millions of dollars of other people's money to fund campaigns in which they just talk about it. So in a contest of talk versus action, doesn't that make Jay Leno the obvious choice?"
As the owner of a huge collection of classic and antique cars, Jay Leno has been a featured writer for Popular Mechanics, contributing his automotive views and ideas to millions of PM readers every month. Sharing his thoughts on the environment is nothing new for Jay. Several previous articles have detailed other initiatives Jay has taken at his large garage to do his part for the environment. But, the September PM article went further on the issue, an indication that Jay is sensitive to the feelings of his supporters and might soon accept their draft of him as a presidential candidate.
Acknowledging that there are people who believe in doing something about global warming and those who don't, Jay's own efforts with generating wind-powered electricity provide a solution that's good for both. Jay said it best in the PM article: "Either way, you're doing a good thing: Saving the environment and striving to be more self-sufficient, which is an important goal for all Americans."
